What is a Christian?
Two Ways To Live
Throughout this site we keep mentioning the 'Gospel' or the 'Good News of Jesus'. These terms can seem foreign, but they are central to what Christians believe.
There are many wrong perceptions of what is it to be a Christian, perhaps that Christians are just 'good people', 'people who go to church' or 'people who believe in God'. But it is the Good News of Jesus that defines what a Christian is.
I could try and explain what this Good News is here, but the Two Ways To Live tract explains what Christians believe in a much simpler and clearer way than I ever could. To view this simple explanation, please click here.
Questions?
Having read the Two Ways To Live tract or not, you may have questions about Christianity, God, the Bible or why we're here on Earth. Alternatively you may just want to argue your opinions on these matters. Either way, here are some ways you can do just that.
- Chat to a Christian Union member or a Christian friend
Well...why not? We'd love to talk to you about Christianity, and I'm sure your Christian friends would as well. We have this 'Good News' (well Great News!) about Jesus and as with any good news, we want to share it! So just ask - it won't be awkward - promise! And if you don't have any Christian friends, contact the Christian Union reps, using the contact us page, and they'll take you out for a coffee and chat.
- Come along to our Christianity Explored course
In Michaelmas term, we put on a Christianity Explored course, available to all St John's members. You won't be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like, or if you prefer, you can just come along and listen. For more information about the Christianity Explored course, such as how it's run, when it's happening and who to talk to about it, please visit our Christianity Explored page, or contact the reps.
In the other two terms, there are other similar courses run by CICCU for the whole of Cambridge, with the same format and the same informal atmosphere where you're free to ask whatever you like. View the events page or contact the reps to find out about these courses.
- Come along to one of our events
Throughout the year the Christian Union put on events aimed at getting people thinking about Jesus and to explain the Good News of Him to anyone willing to listen. It may be that one of these would be a great place to start your investigation into Christianity. Keep an eye on our events page for these events, or contact the reps, who will be able to inform you when these events are happening.
In summary, do please contact us if you have ANY questions, or are at all interested in finding out more...we will be able to help, whatever your situation.
